Your time spent at the Grief Recovery Retreat will allow you the opportunity to explore the cultural myths around grief, understand that there are over 40 types of grief, and let go of the notion of closure while embracing the idea of completion. You will leave the retreat on day 2 with a new set of tools, a broader understanding of grief, and a sense of peace when you bring your unresolved grief to completion.
The Grief Recovery Program is an action based program for moving beyond death, divorce, and other losses. Your feelings are normal and natural. The problem is we have been socialized to believe that these feelings are abnormal and unnatural. People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don’t tell you what to do to accomplish that. The Grief Recovery Method not only makes that possible but provides partnerships and guidance to ensure it happens. Grievers are not broken and do not need to be fixed-they need to be heard.
The retreat takes place nestled up against the Cascade Mountains and in the presence of horses. If you would like to do deeper into your grief healing experience, you can add a 1:1 session onto the weekend. During a 1:1 session, the horse will meet you where you are energetically without judgement and help you reconnect to your own body, mind, and spirit. The session will be catered to your needs and desires. No equine experience is necessary and there is no riding involved. This experience can be added at checkout. The 1:1 session will be scheduled on Saturday of the event before or after class.
Prior to this event, an email will be sent with arrival instructions and the location address. All participants must sign a waiver and be over the age of 18. There are no refunds for this event as there are upfront costs and multiple facilitators involved to make this retreat successful.
Register early as space is limited to 6 participants. The Retreat takes place over the 18th and 19th of April from 10am - 3pm. The cost includes lunch for both days, journal, book, and extra goodies.
The horse experience is facilitated by Margo and the Grief Recovery Retreat will be facilitated by Destiny Hornstein. A little bit about Destiny:
My name is Destiny, and I am a vintage 1984 with original parts. I grew up in Eastern Washington, but have lived in Utah as well as Alaska. Professionally, I hold a BS in Developmental Psychology, a MA in Criminal Justice, and another one in Emotional and Behavioral Disorders. I started my career in juvenile detention, and other than a 3 year detour of slinging bling on Facebook I have spent the better part of the last 16 years as a Behavior Intervention Specialist in the public education space. I currently run a referral based program for the most behaviorally impacted students in a small school district outside of Spokane. Personally, I am an avid reader, love being outside near water, am a Taurus through, love to write with ambitions of a book or three someday, and have recently taken up running in the last few years. My husband is a PE teacher and makes all my DIY home project dreams become reality. I have two chocolate labs I have a love hate relationship with, a rescue cat named Sox, and two boys Easton and Sawyer that give my life meaning, purpose, and a really high grocery bill.
